1. Preliminary Examination

2. Main Examination

The Main Examination consists of two parts:

I. Written Examination

  • Eligibility: Candidates qualifying the Preliminary Exam are shortlisted (typically 11 to 12 times the number of vacancies per category).
  • Structure:
    • Total Papers: 6 papers
      • Paper 1: Essay (250 marks, 3 hours)
      • Papers 2-5: General Studies (each 250 marks, 3 hours per paper)
      • Paper 6: General Subject Paper on Assam (250 marks, 3 hours)
  • Medium: Answers can be written in either English or Assamese.

II. Interview/Personality Test

  • Marks: 180 marks
  • Purpose: To assess the candidate’s intellectual abilities, social traits, and overall suitability for a career in public service.
  • Interview Focus:
    • Mental alertness and critical thinking
    • Logical reasoning and clarity of exposition
    • Depth of interest in current affairs, social cohesion, leadership qualities, and ethical integrity
